Software Developer Principal – GDIT

What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of related software development experience.
  • Strong Java development skills and experience with AWS solutions.
  • Experience in mainframe COBOL, preferably within a Medicaid or insurance environment.
  • Current AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) certification.
  • Hands‑on experience with full‑stack development, WSDL/SOAP, REST, and XML/JSON services.
  • Experience with modern Java frameworks (Spring MVC, Spring Batch, Struts) and JavaScript frameworks (Angular, Node).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and dev‑ops practices.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the transformation of the mainframe COBOL Medicaid Claims processing application to a modern, Java‑based, AWS‑hosted solution.
  • Support the claims development team in modernizing enterprise applications and creating real‑time and batch programs using AWS AI‑driven modernization technologies.
  • Collaborate with the NCTracks development team to support ongoing R&M activities for claims processing.
  • Manage application servers and containers (JBOSS, Tomcat, Web Logic, Web Sphere) and oversee cloud‑native architecture in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, code reviews, and test plans for new and migrated services.
  • Travel occasionally to Raleigh, NC (once a month) for face‑to‑face collaboration; otherwise, work remotely within the continental U.S.
Required Technical Skills
  • AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or Professional).
  • Experience with AI models for software development.
  • 8+ years of full‑stack experience designing enterprise‑level web applications, services, and APIs.
  • COBOL migration experience to AWS in a Medicaid or large enterprise environment.
  • Proficiency with Java/J2EE, XML, JSON, SOAP/REST, JAX‑WS.
  • Experience with Struts, Spring MVC, Spring Batch, Angular, Node, JavaScript, jQuery.
  • Knowledge of app/web server management (JBOSS, Tomcat, Web Logic, Web Sphere).
  • Cloud‑native development in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Proficient with IDEs (Eclipse, Net Beans, IBM Data Studio) and source control (Subversion, Git).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Team City, RTC) and monitoring/alerting systems.
  • Advanced automated testing using SoapUI, Selenium, and other tools.
  • Database development with SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures across Oracle, IBM Db2, or MS SQL Server.
  • Agile methodology and strong networking fundamentals (IP/TCP/UDP/DNS/HTTP).
  • Strong mentoring and communication skills.
Desired Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of AWS AI tools such as AWS Transform and agentic AI tools like Kiro.
  • Experience with JMS queues/topics, Mule Soft Anypoint Studio, MULE ESB, Active MQ, Kafka, JPA.
  • Design experience with API Gateways, proxies, and security for healthcare/insurance solutions.
  • Experience with HIPAA‑compliant data and X12 transactions (834, 837, 820, 835, 270/271, 276/277, 278, 999).
  • Familiarity with healthcare insurance information architecture.
Benefits & Compensation

Salary range: $123,250 – $166,750 (subject to location, experience, and contractual terms).
