Description

Ravenscroft School seeks a Varsity Head Basketball Coach & Program Head to lead and oversee all levels of the basketball program, including varsity, junior varsity, middle school, and developmental teams.

This role is responsible for establishing a unified program philosophy centered on student-athlete development, competitive excellence, leadership and character formation, and alignment with the mission and values of Ravenscroft School. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who develops sport-specific skills, fosters a disciplined and team-first culture, and maintains high academic and behavioral standards.

This position may be structured as a stand‑alone coaching role or combined with a full-time faculty or staff position for qualified candidates. Reports to: Athletic Director

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as Head Coach of Varsity Basketball and oversee all levels of the program
  • Develop and implement a unified philosophy, standards of play, and program culture
  • Lead and evaluate program coaches to ensure alignment in player development and expectations
  • Support long-term planning, including player pathways and off‑season programming
Player and Coach Development
  • Design and implement structured practice plans and training programs
  • Teach and demonstrate sport-specific fundamentals and team strategy
  • Utilize Hudl for film review and performance analysis
  • Promote sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and personal growth
Operations and Administration
  • Maintain required records, rosters, injury reports, and department documentation
  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance and inventory oversight
  • Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions
  • Report game results and disciplinary matters as required
Communication and Community Engagement
  • Serve as the primary communicator for the basketball program with students, families, alumni, and school leadership
  • Strengthen alumni engagement and program tradition
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Advancement, and Athletic leadership to support visibility and storytelling
  • Foster an inclusive culture aligned with Ravenscroft’s commitment to DEIB
Compliance and Professional Expectations
  • Enforce school policies and ensure compliance with conference and state athletic guidelines
  • Uphold transportation laws and safety expectations
  • Model professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect at all times

Qualifications Required
  • Experience leading or contributing to a comprehensive basketball program
  • Proven leadership and coach mentorship skills
  • Experience working with adolescent student-athletes in an educational setting
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Hudl or similar video platforms
  • Commitment to the mission of Ravenscroft School
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role
Preferred
  • CDL with school bus endorsement
Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position requires active physical participation, including demonstrating drills and remaining on your feet for extended periods of time. The role also requires the ability to lift and move athletic equipment. Evening and weekend commitments, as well as seasonal travel during the athletic season, are expected.
