Meredith College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Director of Lowery Fitness Center and Assistant Professor in Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences. This position is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track (if eligible) faculty appointment.
Director, Lowery Fitness Center Responsibilities:
The Lowery Fitness Center serves as a health and well-being center for the Meredith College community. It is a research and teaching laboratory for the Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences program, a strength and conditioning facility for Athletics, and a programmatic space for employee and student wellness.
The Director is responsible for the organization and management of all aspects of the Lowery Fitness Center including comprehensive multidisciplinary facility coordination, financial and strategic planning, human resources, and risk management. The Director collaborates with key stakeholders across campus on fundraising, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
Key Responsibilities of Director of the Lowery Fitness Center:
* Provides overall direction, administration, and management of a diversified fitness program and facility. Oversees staff and program development, participant relations, risk management, program assessment, and program-specific technologies.
* Benchmarks current trends and practices within the fields of fitness and wellbeing and implements new and innovating programming and services based on program assessment and current trends. Works closely with the Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences program, the Student Health Center, and Human Resources to coordinate marketing strategies for fitness programs and services.
* Oversees recruitment, selection, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of fitness personnel. Supervises and mentors student fitness center supervisor, undergraduate and graduate student assistants. Develops and implements a recurring onboarding program in collaboration with the Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences program to include medical emergency certification training.
* Works jointly with the Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences fitness programmatic offerings held in the Lowery Fitness Center for the health and physical learning courses, Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences laboratory courses and clinical exercise program, student group fitness classes, and employee wellness classes.
* Collaborates in student, employee, and donor recruitment efforts with Admissions, Human Resources, Institutional Advancement, and Marketing departments.
* Works with Athletics in the facility coordination of strength and conditioning and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
* Provides leadership and coordination in the design and implementation of assessment related to student development, participant fitness and wellbeing enhancement, and customer satisfaction in related program areas. Maintains statistical data regarding program participation, summarizes data, and develops executive reports for program areas.
* Oversees the development and management of the fitness budget, including payroll expenditures, line-item expenses, and revenue/fundraising generation. Responsible for inventory control, purchasing, invoicing, ordering, and receiving of program-related equipment and supplies.
* Assists with strategic and long-term planning in collaboration with the Department of Nutrition, Health, and Human Performance. Develops, interprets, and implements program policies and operating procedures. Responsible for the enforcement of departmental and University policies.
* Supports the Department of Nutrition, Health, and Human Performance in supervising additional fitness facilities and laboratories.
Faculty Responsibilities:
This position includes a faculty appointment in the Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences program. Teaching responsibilities include a broad undergraduate curriculum within the Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences major and minor. Potential courses may include but are not limited to:
Introduction to Kinesiology, Exercise Leadership, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise and Sport Psychology, Sport Sociology, or Sport Management.
Other responsibilities include active involvement within the department, student advising and mentoring (including undergraduate research), college-wide service, and professional involvement.
This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Education, Health and Human Sciences and works in collaboration with the Nutrition, Health and Human Performance department chair.
Qualifications:
* Earned master's or doctoral degree in kinesiology or related field (terminal degree is required for the tenure track)
