A Facility Assistant maintains a growth mindset, cares and takes initiative. In this role, you will manage the equipment room; maintain the cleanliness and aesthetics of all fitness, open recreation, and general facility spaces; set up activities and rooms; report maintenance and housekeeping issues; provide premier customer service; and promote a safe, clean facility. Contribute
  • Safety: Ensure user safety through supervision, procedure, and guideline enforcement, and accident response.
  • Customer Service: Develop knowledge about facilities and equipment to provide premier customer service.
  • Cleaning and General Facility Operations: Clean, organize, and maintain equipment and spaces.
  • Equipment Room: Oversee the equipment desk, handle check‑out and check‑in for recreational equipment, towels, and apparel; perform laundry duties; and manage lost and found items.
  • Open Recreation and Setups: Supervise open recreation sports activities and spaces.
  • Cleanliness: Maintain the cleanliness of equipment and facility.
  • Attend non‑revenue generating sporting events for free.

Work Schedule

Maximum 20 hours per week as scheduled

Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Guideline Enforcement: Understand and enforce Wellness and Recreation and area specific guidelines.
  • Risk Management: Knowledge and implementation of emergency action plan.
  • Training and Meetings: Attend required training and monthly staff meetings.
  • Community: Develop professional relationships with co‑workers, participants and guests.
  • Support: Perform other related duties to support the overall functioning of the department.
Working Conditions
  • Environment: Both indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to adverse weather.
  • Physical: Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting weight up to 40 lbs regularly.
  • Sensory: Potentially loud and busy work environment that requires strong communication and observation skills.
  • Schedule: Flexibility in your availability is needed to potentially work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and university breaks.
  • Safety: Exposure to potential safety hazards and adherence to the emergency action plan to mitigate risk.

Required License or Certification
  • Eligibility: Current full‑time NC State student, demonstrated by enrollment in at least 12 undergraduate or 9 graduate credit hours.
  • Certifications: First Aid and Adult CPR / AED certifications should be current or obtained before position commencement. This certification is provided to selected candidates upon being hired.
