Social Worker Senior

Position Summary

The vacancy is located in the Adult Protection Unit within the Social Services Department. Candidates may be considered for other vacancies within the department or county based on the eligibility list generated from this posting.

• Interview adults or children to assess service needs.
• Interview families and other stakeholders to determine client needs.
• Evaluate individual or family functioning to develop case plans and treatment objectives.
• Assess risk of physical harm and take appropriate action to protect clients.
• Investigate reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable adults within legislative time limits.
• Coordinate and facilitate the use of departmental and community resources, making referrals as needed.
• Investigate, document, and present information to the County Attorney for legal intervention and testify at proceedings.
• Write social histories and case status reports for documentation and court review.
• Select appropriate placement homes or facilities for clients requiring residential treatment.
• Monitor client progress toward service goals and determine termination or continuation of services.
• Provide direct counseling and therapeutic interventions to individuals or groups.
• Arrange or provide transportation for clients to medical appointments, court hearings, or service programs.
• Consult with departmental staff, other county departments, and community professionals to develop timely services.
• Provide crisis intervention services and referrals for emergency housing, food, clothing, or financial assistance.
• Evaluate families and homes for day‑care or foster‑care licensing and approving adoption eligibility.
• Investigate complaints and revoke or suspend day/foster‑care licenses when warranted.
• Engage with community groups to present program information and recruit day‑care, foster‑care, or volunteer services.
• Develop recruitment techniques and resource materials.
• Direct and consult with volunteers and student interns.
• Represent the unit or department in committee assignments and community interactions.
• Develop and provide training to co‑workers and service providers.
• Maintain accurate case records and complete necessary documentation.
• Consult with other social workers on drafting petitions for court presentation and represent social workers at hearings.
• Monitor client compliance with court orders and report to the court.
• Provide data to monitor trends and developments related to client and program needs.
• Offer problem‑solving consultation to clients, co‑workers, service providers, and other agencies.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in social/behavioral science or equivalent, plus any combination of 23 additional credits or 230 continuing education hours related to social work.

Experience: Five years of social work experience or equivalent. Substitutions are available for experience as a Ramsey County Human Services Case Aide Level 3, Master’s degrees in Social Work or related fields, and other relevant experience as described.

Certification/Licensure: None required.
