Position SummaryWe are seeking a Tax Manager to oversee tax engagements, support client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of our New Jersey practice. This role is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys managing client work, mentoring staff, and developing as a leader within a growing organization.
The successful candidate will work closely with firm leadership while helping deliver high‑quality tax and advisory services to closely held businesses, partnerships, and individual clients.

Work Environment: This role is based full‑time in our Ramsey, New Jersey office and involves close in‑person collaboration with our team and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and review business, partnership, corporate, and individual tax engagements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
- Prepare and review tax returns, projections, and related work papers.
- Assist with tax planning and advisory services for closely held businesses and high‑net‑worth individuals.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and technical expertise.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop senior accountants and staff accountants.
- Coordinate workflow, manage deadlines, and oversee engagement budgeting and scheduling.
- Research and resolve federal and state tax issues, including multi‑state matters where applicable.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to improve processes, workflow efficiency, and client service delivery.
- Support implementation of technology and best practices across engagements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across AFG’s growing national network.
- Active CPA license preferred (or actively pursuing licensure).
- 4 to 6 years of progressive public accounting experience with a strong focus on taxation.
- Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax compliance.
- Experience reviewing returns and supervising staff.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
- Experience with tax and accounting software platforms commonly used in public accounting.
