OverviewThe Senior Project Manager is responsible for management of IT Projects which includes designing, developing, and supporting software solutions for project management systems within an engineering consulting environment. This role supports real-time and enterprise utility systems, collaborating closely with engineers, system architects, and client stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure solutions that support grid modernization initiatives.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications supporting intelligent grid and utility systems
- Support real-time and near real-time systems related to grid operations, monitoring, and analytics
- Develop and optimize database-driven applications utilizing Oracle, SQL, and related technologies
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams to translate technical and business requirements into functional solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system, application, and performance issues
- Support system integrations with utility platforms (e.g., AMI, ADMS, OMS, DERMS)
- Ensure software solutions meet security, performance, and reliability standards
- Participate in system upgrades, deployments, and ongoing maintenance activities
- Create and maintain technical documentation and development standards
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior programmers
- Develops comprehensive project management plans including risk management, communication plans, project charters, quality assurance plans, and stakeholder analyses along with resource-loaded work plans by negotiating agreements with all participating project team members to ensure projects are completed within strict deadlines and in an efficient manner. Monitors and analyzes actual support costs against planned costs and forecasts future costs to complete the projects.
Ensures that projects scheduling is in accordance with or in advance of the programming documents. - Manages the Project Delivery Team through the project life cycle. Builds strong internal partnerships to establish a productive working relationship and structure for assigned projects delivery. Builds and expands existing external partnerships to effectively coordinate all ongoing efforts that may impact assigned projects. Represents the company at meetings with clients and project stakeholders.
- Monitors and updates project scopes, schedules, and costs, both in terms of support and capital costs. Ensure adequate resources are available for the projects and that any project changes are managed and communicated effectively and proactively. Reports timely and accurate project status information to Management on a regular basis to ensure all staff involved with the projects are properly informed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Significant experience in Project Management and software development within utility, energy, or engineering consulting environments
- Strong programming experience supporting real-time or mission-critical systems
- Experience with Oracle and SQL databases
- Familiarity with Project Management systems preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
