GEI has an outstanding opportunity for a mid-level environmental planning professional (3+ years of experience) specializing in California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to join our Oakland, CA office. The role involves executing projects across California and the West in water, environmental, energy, climate change, habitat conservation and restoration, and other sectors. You will serve as an environmental planner, section writer, and project coordinator while interfacing with clients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities- Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, organizing data collection, conducting site visits, performing data and literature review, and coordinating CEQA/NEPA compliance documentation.
- Serve as environmental planner, section writer, and project coordinator on primarily water resources and natural resources projects requiring environmental compliance work.
- Assist senior project managers with project management and coordination duties to support clients and larger projects, including coordination with GEI’s internal team and external clients.
- Support teams preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and competitive proposals.
- Collaborate closely with other GEI environmental specialists, engineers, planners, project managers, and directors to execute projects effectively and efficiently.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience with writing environmental documents and conducting environmental analysis, and a successful record of preparing CEQA and/or NEPA documents.
- BA, BS, MA, MS, or Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Environmental or Biological Sciences, Urban Planning, Geography, or related natural or physical sciences.
- Experience in at least one of the following technical areas is ideal: water resources/hydrology, water quality, geology, air quality, climate change, and/or biological resources.
- Outstanding problem‑solving, organization, coordination, writing, people, and verbal communication skills; solid work ethic; and ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent quality of work and technical experience are required.
