Senior Mechanical Engineer-Hydropower Gates and Locks Specialist

Position

Mechanical Engineer – Hydropower, Construction, Systems.
Location: Rancho Cordova, CA, US.

Lead, design, and manage hydropower projects focusing on mechanical components such as gates, valves, pumps, and flow‑control systems. Work on conceptual studies, detailed designs, and risk assessments for dams, conduits, and powerhouses.

• Lead design of mechanical equipment: gates, valves, pop‑up intake systems, deicing devices, and associated piping.
• Conduct conceptual studies, hydraulic evaluations, and condition assessments.
• Prepare specifications, drawings, and technical reports for complex deliverables.
• Oversee dam‑safety inspections and provide input for risk assessments.
• Support hydro‑turbine unit upgrades and powerhouse balance‑of‑plant systems.
• Manage project budget, schedule, and quality; assign tasks to team members and review work.
• Provide technical guidance and develop design standards and code compliance.
• Communicate client interests and project milestones; assist business development efforts.
• Ensure implementation of policies, procedures, and quality programs.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related engineering.
• At least 11 years of engineering experience; 25+ years preferred for locks, dams, or water‑conveyance facilities.
• Experience with finite‑element analysis (FEA) and advanced engineering techniques.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent in the operating country.
• Previous client‑facing experience.
• Active engineering registration or licensure for Engineer‑of‑Record duties where required.

• Typical office environment with prolonged computer use; occasional site visits requiring physical activity.
• Travel up to 10% of the time.
• Hybrid or flexible work options after 90 days of employment based on performance and assignments.
