Step into Your New RoleKleinfelder is seeking a strategic and relationship‑driven Northern California Engineering Transportation Business Leader to accelerate growth across one of the most dynamic infrastructure markets in the country. This is more than a leadership role — it’s an opportunity to influence regional strategy, strengthen partnerships with top public agencies, and build integrated teams that deliver innovative, high‑impact solutions.
Working closely with operations in San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Stockton, Concord, Santa Rosa, and Fresno, you will play a central role in driving revenue growth and positioning Kleinfelder as a trusted advisor across surface transportation, aviation, transit, and ports/harbors markets.
Why This Role MattersThis position directly influences Kleinfelder’s regional growth trajectory. You will shape strategic direction, mentor teams, and strengthen long‑term partnerships in a market poised for continued infrastructure investment.
This position offers a flexible schedule however duties will be primarily performed in an office environment. Travel throughout Northern California expected for client and teaming partner meetings, industry meetings and conferences, etc.
What You’ll Do- Define and lead the Northern California transportation growth strategy
- Expand relationships with key agencies including Caltrans, regional DOTs, municipalities, and transit authorities
- Drive $15–$20M+ in new annual business across transportation‑related consulting services
- Build and lead client‑focused, multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Guide proposal strategy and differentiate Kleinfelder in competitive pursuits
- Identify emerging market trends and position the firm for long‑term success
- 15+ years of experience managing business development of transportation infrastructure projects including highways, bridges, rail / transit, aviation and / or ports / harbors
- 10+ years of direct client interaction and industry specific sales experience
- 10+ years of management experience
- Deep client relationships across the Bay Area, Central Valley, and Sacramento Valley
- Proven business development success within engineering and professional consulting services
- Strong leadership presence and the ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organization
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related technical field
- California PE license strongly preferred
Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.
BenefitsKleinfelder, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
Salary Range: $143,936 - $251,516.
