Principal Civil Engineer; Water

Our Sacramento/Davis office has an opening for a self‑motivated engineer with 8–12 years of experience to work on projects related to groundwater wells, drinking water, water reuse, and stormwater.

The successful candidate will collaborate in a non‑hierarchical, team‑centred environment, managing project tasks, producing quality work, and delivering assignments on time and on budget.

• Manage projects and tasks for groundwater wells and drinking water supply projects.
• Participate in business development as part of a client service team.
• Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design activities.
• Prepare calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications during construction.
• Assist with submittal reviews, RFI, correspondence, change requests and change orders for construction projects.
• Conduct field work as necessary for various projects.
• Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including drafters, designers, and other engineers.
• Deliver assignments on time and on budget.
• Adhere to Brown & Caldwell’s QA/QC process.

• Self‑starter, results‑oriented, able to work under deadlines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Desire to work on groundwater, drinking water, water reuse, and stormwater projects.
• California PE license.
• Experience:
  • Design of water infrastructure facilities (wells, pump stations, pipelines, etc.). Groundwater infrastructure design experience preferred.
  • Engineering studies and analysis.
  • Managing projects or tasks, including budget and schedule.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on large coordinated teams.
  • Willingness to perform field work at various sites.
  • Knowledge of standard software including MS Office, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.

The anticipated starting pay range is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be modified in the future.

Location B: $117,000 – $160,000

Location C: $128,000 – $174,000
