Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

civ.works is a privacy protected social platform built for meaningful civic action. The concept of civ.works is to finally provide a societal machine to stand up against something created nearly 50 years ago — and begin the process of empowering citizens again. We are building a platform together — against an incredibly mature and well-funded machine. Your volunteer efforts will be helping us collectively build something powerful and important.

Opportunity

Democracy itself is under attack worldwide. This opportunity is to interview local pro-democracy activists in the United States and globally to highlight effective efforts to preserve democratic forms of government.

Examples

This might include interviews with those in the Milk Tea movement of civil resistance in Myanmar, and interviews of young people engaged in voter registration in the United States. It might include articles about Sudan, not only the current violence and famine but the youth movement that had briefly succeeded against the odds, and what they are doing now; or with members of Standing Together bringing Palestinian and Arab and Jewish Israelis together to struggle for peace and change of government;

or Dawn MENA working on release of documents about Leahy Act enforcement, to understand what that is and how it could help.

What we aim to learn

We want to know what makes people feel strongly about defending or fighting for their right to a democratic form of government, and what people are doing about it. We address and highlight serious problems but with somewhat of a solutions focus or emphasis on elevating those working on change.

Responsibilities
  • Interview local pro-democracy activists in the United States and globally to highlight effective efforts to preserve democratic forms of government.
  • Research, draft, and contribute to content that informs readers about democratic action and youth engagement.
  • Collaborate with the civ.works team to produce insightful articles and interviews that align with the platform s mission.
Qualifications
  • Interest in democracy, civic engagement, and human rights.
  • Strong communication and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to work as a volunteer and contribute to building a platform for civic action.
