Role SummaryWe are seeking a Associate Project Manager to support critical R&D projects at our Rancho Cordova laboratory. In this hands-on role, you’ll partner closely with engineering, scientific, and operations teams to help coordinate technical work streams, manage project tasks, and keep R&D milestones on track from concept through completion.
This role is ideal for an early-career PM who wants to learn how to structure ambiguous technical work, surface risks early, and improve decision quality as projects move from discovery through validation into the market. You will work closely with scientists, engineers, and operations leaders to help teams stay aligned, focused, and honest about what is known, unknown, and changing. This is not a task-policing role.
It is a thinking, communication, and learning role.
- Support the planning and execution of cross-functional R&D initiatives in a laboratory environment
- Develop and maintain project plans that reflect uncertainty, dependencies, and evolving assumptions
- Coordinate daily work with scientists, engineers, and technical leads to maintain alignment and momentum
- Identify emerging risks, decision points, and tradeoffs, and proactively elevate them with context and options
- Track milestones and deliverables while anticipating roadblocks and helping teams navigate them
- Facilitate project discussions that clarify decisions, owners, and next steps—not just status
- Prepare clear, concise updates for project owners and leadership that reflect reality, not wishful thinking
- Support change management as scope, priorities, or constraints evolve
- Contribute to improving how project work is structured, visible, and learned over time
- 1–3 years of experience supporting technical, R&D, engineering, or operational work in a structured environment
- Exposure to project coordination or project management practices in technical settings
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, without losing sight of the bigger picture
- Clear communicator comfortable engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Experience with project management tools (Wrike or similar tools is a plus)
- PMP, CAPM, or equivalent certification is a plus, but not required
- Must be based in or willing to commute to the greater Sacramento area (Rancho Cordova)
- Direct exposure to cutting-edge biotech R&D project work
- A dynamic work environment blending technical innovation with real-world impact
- A collaborative, mission-oriented team where your voice and thinking matter
- 401(k) plan with company match
- Flexible paid time off
- Salary range between $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience
