Overview
The Business Data Analyst collaborates with business teams to determine needs and opportunities for leveraging data to support business monitoring and decision management. Applies a range of analytics and statistical techniques to generate relevant and accurate insights through data exploration, modeling, analysis and mining. Communicates findings effectively using visualizations, dashboards and presentations with the goal of optimizing business decisions and outcomes.
Responsibilities- Engage with business leaders and staff to clarify needs and define business requirements for data analysis; anticipate and propose opportunities for analysis and exploration in support of business optimization and decision‑making.
- Analyze complex business problems using operational and financial data from multiple sources to provide insight to decision‑makers.
- Perform data exploration, analysis and statistical inference to identify and interpret trends and patterns in datasets and detect influences, opportunities and risks.
- Develop forecasts, regression models, what‑if scenarios and recommendations in consultation with leaders to support strategic and tactical planning and operational decision‑making.
- Create dashboards, visualizations and reports to support business performance monitoring, automating where possible, to enable stakeholders to be data‑driven.
- Create presentations that intuitively communicate insights for business leaders and colleagues.
- Work collaboratively with the enterprise analytics and information management team to articulate business needs for new or revised data models and views or access to data.
- Contribute to data inventory and stewardship efforts, including metadata management, data profiling, data quality remediation and data cleansing.
- Maintain high standards and adhere to enterprise policies and guidelines regarding data security, privacy, data management, data quality and governance.
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, mathematics, economics, computer science or a related functional area; or equivalent experience.
- Four or more years of demonstrated data analytics experience, including querying and analyzing operational and/or financial data, generating insights and communicating effectively with colleagues and leaders.
- Prior experience executing analytics projects in domains such as financial management, risk assessment, insurance utilization and pricing, supply‑chain optimization, retail management, e‑commerce management, consumer behavior analysis, marketing optimization or healthcare management.
- Experience building complex data queries using SQL and understanding how GUI‑driven applications apply SQL concepts.
- Experience creating effective data visualizations and dashboards that highlight trends and patterns and enable monitoring of business performance against KPIs.
- Experience using data exploration and analysis platforms such as Cognos Analytics, Tableau, SAS or similar.
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts and relational database structures.
- Strategic skills, business acumen and curiosity to support envisioning work, program planning and strategic partnerships.
- Ability to analyze and document business requirements.
- Flexible and able to quickly and effectively change priorities and direction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and analytical skills.
- Remains current in the field, learning new techniques, approaches and software.
- Expert level skills in Excel.
Salary range: $63,000.00 – $. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job‑related factors permitted by law. The role may include eligible bonuses and commissions.
