We are partnered with a well-established real estate developer/builder seeking a Corporate Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role overseeing a multi-entity environment with significant exposure to audits, tax, banking, and complex real estate accounting.
The ideal candidate will come from the Construction/Development, Real Estate Development or Homebuilding industries.
The role requires deep technical accounting expertise, strong people leadership, and experience working closely with CPAs, auditors, and banking partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all corporate accounting functions across ~50 entities
- Prepare, review, and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage and review complex real estate accounting, including:
- Partnership accounting
- Job costing
- Development and construction accounting
- Own the close process and ensure timely, accurate reporting
- Supervise and mentor a team of 6 direct reports, including:
- Divisional Controller
- 2 Staff Accountants
- Serve as primary liaison with:
- External CPAs and auditors
- Commercial banking partners
- Lead all audit and tax-related activities, including:
- Working directly with CPA firms
- 1099 preparation and reporting
- Property tax appeals
- Handle complex journal entries and ensure GAAP compliance
- Support banking activities, including account management and lender relationships
- Continuously improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior public accounting experience strongly preferred
- CPA highly desirable (not required)
- Extensive experience with:
- Financial statement preparation and review
- Real estate and development accounting
- Partnership accounting and job costing
- Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams
- Strong audit, tax, and banking exposure
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable in a hands-on, high-volume, multi-entity environment
