Position Title: Sustainability Manager
New-Indy is seeking a strategic and hands‑on Sustainability Manager to lead sustainability initiatives across its paper mill and packaging services. This newly created role presents an opportunity to build sustainability programs from the ground up, focusing on compliance, innovation, and continuous improvement in sustainability performance. The Sustainability Manager will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure alignment with corporate goals, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
The position involves heavy reporting, compliance, and the development of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs. The successful candidate will navigate challenges while driving the company’s sustainability direction and fostering cross‑functional collaboration.
Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 / Year DOE
Sustainability Manager Responsibilities- Develop and implement site‑level sustainability plans aligned with corporate ESG goals
- Lead initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, water usage, waste generation, and energy consumption
- Monitor and report on sustainability KPIs, including GHG emissions, effluent discharge, and fiber sourcing
- Implement processes and monitor sustainability compliance policies, procedures, and best practices for New‑Indy Container board mills and packaging business sectors
- Manage, train, and ensure compliance with sustainability requirements, processes, and procedures
- Conduct competitor gap analysis; build policies and roadmap
- Collect, analyze, and report large sustainability datasets
- Cross‑functional engagement with HR, Finance, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Supply Chain, and customers
- Ensure compliance with California‑specific policies and customer requirements
- Support site visits and stakeholder presentations; drive execution to meet goals
- Science‑based technical background; engineering or environmental engineering/science preferred
- Manager‑level sustainability experience
- Hands‑on sustainability execution, including GHG quantification, data analysis, and reporting
- Ability to operate cross‑functionally and with external customers
- Experience with CDP and Eco Vadis preferred
- Willingness to travel approximately 1 week/quarter
- Industry experience in pulp & paper; also open to food, oil & gas, general manufacturing, and converters is preferred
- Prior experience building sustainability roadmaps and policies is preferred
- Strong data management and KPI reporting are preferred
