Overview
Superintendent with a passion for leading crews on large-scale, multi-scope waterproofing projects. You will coordinate complex systems such as hot rubber, traffic coatings, expansion joints, cold-applied waterproofing systems, HRA waterproofing on elevated podiums, planters, and amenity areas over a multi-year project lifecycle. This role is for a field leader who will plan, coordinate, and execute work safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards on a flagship project in Southern California beginning mid-2026.
As the on-site face of F.D. Thomas's Southern California division, you will drive daily operations, set the tone for craftsmanship, safety, collaboration, and customer service, and mentor crews to ensure work is delivered on schedule and to specification.

This position is responsible for the overall supervision, leadership, and coordination of construction field personnel and job scheduling across waterproofing and specialty systems, including below-grade applications (water table and non-water table), hot rubber, vapor mitigation systems, roofing, and traffic coatings. The role ensures all work is performed safely, skillfully, and efficiently while meeting project schedules, quality standards, and company expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities Safety- Act as Competent Person
- Ensure a safe and productive work environment
- Enforce safety policies and procedures
- Ensure up to date and adequate HAZCOM program is in place
- Ensure Environmental Monitoring/Medical Monitoring is performed, and results reported
- Reporting results on containment effectiveness, air flow monitoring and personal hygiene
- Assist safety in achieving a zero-accident work area
- Ensure proper PPE is used in all situations
- Reward safe and productive work activities
- Ensure proper barricades and signage are being used
- Monitor crews daily to ensure they are keeping a well-maintained work area
- Conduct Jobsite Safety Assessment, Trainings and Jobsite POD/JSA Meetings
- Ensure an ample supply of labor that is qualified, trained, and able to work
- Supervise working foreman, journeyman, apprentice
- Schedule work in accordance with manpower
- Coordinate with other crafts
- Coordinate activities of field personnel to successfully and efficiently complete multiple projects simultaneously
- Assist in the recruitment, development, assignment, and evaluation of field personnel
- Ensure field personnel have proper training and credentials to perform the work
- Train employees in safe work practices
- Train employees in proper equipment use
- Provide mentoring to field personnel regarding work activities, safety, and quality expectations
- Daily Toolbox meetings
- New hire orientation and safety training
- Meet quality specifications
- Assist QC in producing a quality product
- Supply employees with the tools they need to do the job
- Eliminate rework
- Manage all job costs
- Plan of the Day
- Plan, organize, and schedule all job site activities with the Project Leader
- Meet schedules and deadlines within budget
- Attend meetings with clients to coordinate and schedule support activities including crane time, scaffold erection, etc.
- Meet all Pre-Job, Job, and Post-Job responsibilities
- Complete all required daily & weekly reporting
- Ensure work releases from client are on file before starting a job task
- Keep log of craft absenteeism
- Daily sign-in sheets for craft
- Use personal protective equipment including respiratory protection, hearing protection, and personal fall arrest systems
- Other duties as the business needs arise
To thrive in this Superintendent role, you will bring:
- 5+ years of experience in the waterproofing industry with increased responsibility
- Proven success managing government jobs and working with large subcontractors
- Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable interacting with customers, building relationships, and representing the company on-site
