Position: Community Affairs Technician - Part Time with PERS

Overview

The Animal Services Department is seeking a dynamic, creative, and compassionate Community Affairs Technician to join our team! Our mission is to create PAWsitive impact by enriching the lives of animals and people. We accomplish this by caring for thousands of animals (domestic and wildlife) annually and working to reunite them with their owners, rehome them, or transfer them to rescue and rehabilitation organizations.

We also play an important role in assisting the public with their animal‑related concerns. You will make a difference! The Animal Center’s new Community Affairs Technician will manage the Animal Center’s website, social media accounts, develop marketing and program material, and create engaging stories and content to help support animal adoptions and community programs.

Responsibilities
  • Design graphics, flyers, marketing material, social media content, and newsletters.
  • Lead on‑site photo and video documentation.
  • Editing videos for social media platforms.
  • Manage archives of digital and design files.
  • Attend community outreach events to document and promote the event and Animal Services programs.
  • Assist with proofreading and editing procedures and community correspondence.
  • Respond to community requests for assistance and information.
  • Assist with compiling and communicating data and performance metrics with the community and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the City’s Community Affairs Network.
  • Ensure all Animal Center materials, messaging, and published content is consistent with the Animal Center and City’s branding standards.
Education & Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in graphic design, video editing, or content production. Associate degree in Marketing, Communications or related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency with graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), video editing tools, and social media platforms, including management and content scheduling, with knowledge of applicable laws. Strong understanding of branding and communication standards, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Skilled in operating modern office equipment, including computer hardware and specialized desktop publishing and graphics programs. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including customers, community groups, supervision, management, and the general public;

and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Special Requirements

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
