Mechanical Drafter
Job Description
The Mechanical Drafter will support aerospace manufacturing operations by creating and maintaining precise 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, multi-level bills of material, and clear assembly instructions. This hands-on role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and inventory control teams, using Solid Works and an MRP/ERP system to ensure accurate documentation and smooth production on the shop floor.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the engineering team to generate and maintain accurate 3D models using Solid Works.
* Create detailed manufacturing drawings, including appropriate GD&T, to support production and quality requirements.
* Develop, structure, and maintain complete multi-level, indentured Bills of Material (BOMs).
* Enter, update, and manage engineering data within an MRP system, with a focus on accurate part structures and revisions.
* Structure assemblies in the MRP system using proper indentured part models to support efficient manufacturing and inventory control.
* Prepare clear, step-by-step assembly instructions for use on the shop floor.
* Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and drawing revisions, ensuring that all related documentation and BOMs remain current.
* Work directly with manufacturing and inventory control teams to review manufacturing kits and verify completeness.
* Identify missing, incorrect, or obsolete components in kits and documentation and help resolve discrepancies before and during production.
* Validate parts against drawings and BOMs to ensure conformance to engineering requirements.
* Support first article builds and ongoing production builds by providing accurate drawings, models, and documentation.
* Apply a solid understanding of machining, fabrication, plastic injection molding, and assembly processes when creating models and drawings.
* Gather and interpret labor and process data on the shop floor to improve documentation and support continuous improvement.
* Maintain high standards of documentation accuracy and attention to detail in all drafting and data entry activities.
Essential Skills
* 2-5 years of experience creating 3D models and detailed drawings in Solid Works.
* Strong working knowledge and practical, hands-on experience with Solid Works in a manufacturing environment.
* Experience generating and maintaining multi-level, indentured Bills of Material (BOMs).
* Experience working in an MRP or ERP environment to manage engineering data and assemblies.
* Ability to read and interpret aerospace drawings and specifications.
* Understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, plastic injection molding, and mechanical assembly.
* Familiarity with GD&T and its application on manufacturing drawings.
* Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing operations on the shop floor.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to documentation accuracy.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience with Syte Line MRP is preferred.
* Skilled in electro-mechanical or mechanical design and mechanical engineering.
* Experience with tooling and rotary switch components is beneficial.
* Familiarity with AS9100 or aerospace quality environments.
* Experience working with engineering change orders (ECOs) and change management processes.
* Comfort working with switches and other electro-mechanical components.
* Experience in 3D modeling for complex assemblies.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel.
Work Environment
The role supports large aerospace projects focused on rotary switch products in a hands-on manufacturing environment. You will work closely with a small, collaborative engineering and manufacturing team that includes engineering, mechanical, and manufacturing professionals, as well as shop floor technicians. The position involves regular interaction on the production floor to review manufacturing kits, gather labor data, and validate parts and assemblies.
The environment is structured around an MRP/ERP system, with Solid Works as a primary design tool and processes aligned with aerospace and AS9100-quality expectations. The role requires…
