Payroll Manager (Contract to Hire)
Pay Range: $90,000 – $100,000 (DOE)
Schedule: Full-time, on-site; flexibility required during payroll cycles
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
The Company seeks an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and execute multi-state payroll operations for a growing organization. This role requires hands-on expertise, strong knowledge of payroll compliance, and the ability to identify gaps, streamline processes, and build scalable solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with ADP Workforce Now and excels in fast-paced environments undergoing organizational change.
Key Responsibilities- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multi-state employee populations
- Oversee payroll accuracy, compliance, audits, and required reporting
- Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable, sustainable payroll processes
- Maintain and optimize ADP Workforce Now, including system configurations and data integrity
- Support payroll operations impacted by growth, restructuring, or acquisitions
- Partner with HR, Accounting, and leadership teams to ensure alignment on payroll requirements
- Manage payroll workflows including garnishments, taxes, deductions, retro payments, and adjustments
- Ensure payroll is processed on time and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
- Develop documentation, SOPs, controls, and process improvements
- Analyze payroll data and provide reporting to management as needed
- 5+ years of payroll experience with multi-state payroll management
- Strong hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now
- Proven ability to assess and improve payroll processes
- Experience supporting companies during growth, acquisitions, or system changes
- Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and best practices
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
- Excellent communication and cross-functional partnership skills
- Ability to work on-site and flex schedule based on payroll deadlines
