Responsibilities
- Operate forklift and/or overhead crane safely.
- Prepare materials for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
- Package finished coils safely and move them to designated locations.
- Verify finished coils are properly identified with an identification ticket before storage.
- Ensure finished coils are not damaged or visibly non-conforming before storage.
- Quarantine non-conforming material using the HFI process and notify Quality Control when non-conforming conditions exist.
- Understand and comply with the fundamental principles of the Quality and Environmental Management systems in place at Blue Scope.
- Communicate daily with employees at all levels to resolve problems and achieve company goals.
- Maintain equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
- Perform all duties safely.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend documents including policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and in small groups.
- Ability to apply common sense and solve standard problems involving multiple variables.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to understand metal and paint characteristics and defects.
- Proficiency in operating power hand tools.
- Forklift certification and ability to operate overhead cranes.
- Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with a diversified workforce.
Regularly required to talk or hear, walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, lift, climb, and/or balance for essential tasks. Vision requirements include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work EnvironmentPotential exposure to moving mechanical parts, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold or heat. Moderate noise level may require hearing protection. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in certain manufacturing areas.
Safety ResponsibilitiesRead and understand the position’s Job Safety Analysis before initiating work. Wear appropriate PPE and perform tasks consistently with Blue Scope safety training, Employee Manual, and OSHA regulations.
