Job Details
Quality & Food Safety Oversight
Monitor and enforce compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP plans, and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs) across production lines.
Conduct and oversee in-process quality checks, including weight checks, metal detection, code dating, sensory evaluation, and critical control point (CCP) monitoring.
Ensure proper documentation of quality records, CCP logs, and corrective actions; review records for accuracy and completeness in real time.
Lead root cause investigations for quality deviations, customer complaints, and non-conformances; implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support hold, rework, and disposition decisions for non-conforming product.
Team Leadership
Supervise, train, and schedule QA technicians/inspectors on assigned shift(s).
Conduct daily huddles to communicate quality priorities, audit findings, and food safety alerts.
Evaluate team performance, provide coaching, and support disciplinary actions in partnership with HR.
Serve as backup for the Quality Manager during absences.
Compliance & Audit Readiness
Maintain audit-ready status for third-party certifications (SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000) and customer audits.
Participate in internal audits, USDA/FDA inspections, and regulatory visits; assist in closing out audit findings within required timelines.
Ensure allergen control, foreign material control, and traceability/mock recall procedures are followed.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FSMA, USDA/FDA regulations, and customer specifications.
Continuous Improvement
Identify trends in quality data and recommend process improvements to reduce defects, waste, and customer complaints.
Collaborate with Production, Sanitation, R&D, and Maintenance to resolve quality issues and support new product startups.
Support validation of new equipment, processes, or packaging changes from a quality perspective.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred).
3+ years of QA/food safety experience in a food manufacturing environment, including at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
HACCP certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
Working knowledge of GMPs, SSOPs, and food safety regulatory requirements (FDA/USDA).
Experience supporting SQF, BRC, or FSSC 22000 certification programs.
Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret specifications, SOPs, and technical data.
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, quality data systems/LIMS).
Preferred
PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification.
Internal auditor training/certification.
Experience with allergen management and foreign material prevention programs.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to stand, walk, and work on the production floor for extended periods (up to full shift).
Ability to work in varying temperature environments (refrigerated, frozen, or heated processing areas).
Ability to lift up to [25-50] lbs occasionally.
