Position: Registered Nurse (RN)-Surgery Main

Position Summary

Main Job Objective:
Provides direct patient care, collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of health care services to the specific patient population. Assesses patient’s needs, plans care, implements and evaluates patient care in accordance with the patient’s needs based on the nurse’s knowledge of growth/development, the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures and standards.

Demonstrates leadership skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth.

Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Nursing, or enrollment in an RN‑BSN or RN‑MSN program within one (1) year of hire and completion within five (5) years of hire if hired after July 1, 2012.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required upon hire.
Certifications and Training Requirements
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association – upon hire.
  • Within 90 days of hire: 6400 2N LDRP 7010 Emergency Room; 6010 Intensive Care Units; 6173 Vascular AP4S; 7087 EDOC Pain Management (South Palm Canyon); 7089 EDOC Pain Management (Rancho Mirage); 7420 Surgery Main; 7426 Perianesthesia – EDOSC; 7427 Perianesthesia – Main Surgery; 7428 Special Procedures; 7429 Perianesthesia – Same Day Surgery DHOC; 7430 Surgery Same Day DHOC; 7431 EDOSC Surgery;

    7570 Cardiac Cath Lab; 7571 Electro Physiology Lab; 7581 EDCC Cardiology Clinic; 7588 EDCC OP Cardiovascular Testing; 7590 Cardiology; 7630 Radiology Main; 7631 Interventional Radiology; 7760 GI Lab; 7761 Mirage Endoscopy;
    Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from American Heart Association: upon hire – 7426 Perianesthesia – EDOSC; 7427 Perianesthesia – Main Surgery; 7429 Perianesthesia – Same Day Surgery DHOC; 7431 EDOSC Surgery; 7630 Radiology Main; 7631 Interventional Radiology.
  • Within 30 days of hire: 7010 Emergency Room.
  • Within 180 days of hire: 6172 Medical Surgical 4E (required only for Pediatric RNs).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification from American Heart Association and American Academy of Pediatrics – upon hire: 6400 2N LDRP 6530 Neonatal ICU Level II.
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal monitoring – upon hire for external new hires: 6400 2N LDRP if assigned to L&D (required for Labor RN only); within 90 days for internal transfers: 6400 2N LDRP if assigned to L&D (required for Labor RN only).
  • STABLE course completion – within 30 days: 6400 2N LDRP (required for Postpartum RN only); 6530 Neonatal ICU Level II.
  • ONS Provider Card – within 90 days: 7641 Main Infusion; 7643 Hem/Onc Infusion (LCCC); 7646 Hem/Onc Infusion (Rancho Plaza); 7647 Hem/Onc Bighorn Infusion (Argyros).
  • Oncology Nurse Certification – within three (3) years if hired after January 1, 2022 if full-time or part-time: 7641 Main Infusion; 7643 Hem/Onc Infusion (LCCC); 7646 Hem/Onc Infusion (Rancho Plaza); 7647 Hem/Onc Bighorn Infusion (Argyros).
  • Hyperbaric Certification – within one (1) year: 7070 Wound Care Clinic (Warke).
Experience
  • Required:

    One (1) year of acute care RN experience or successful completion of Eisenhower’s Nurse Residency Program.
  • Preferred:
    Experience in the area of specialty; ONS Provider Card if assigned to 6171 Medical Surgical 3E.

Reports To:

Clinical Manager or Director. Supervises: N/A, delegates to licensed and non‑licensed assistive personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • 2. Assesses, utilizing age specific data, the patient’s physical, psychosocial, and spiritual status in a comprehensive manner; provides accurate assessment based on scientific facts and principles.
  • 3. Performs initial assessment and completes required documentation within organizational standards.
  • 4. Performs and documents ongoing assessments including observation, physical examination, laboratory/test results, and patient response to procedural intervention.
