Position Description
The Facilities Design Drafter I supports facility design and modification efforts at Applied Medical by preparing accurate construction drawings for facility alterations and additions. This role contributes to safe, compliant, and well-documented industrial, laboratory, clean-room, warehouse, and office environments by maintaining record drawings and as-built documentation. The Facilities Design Drafter I supports facilities design drafting, architectural drafting, and AutoCAD documentation efforts while working closely with internal team members and facilities stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare construction drawings for facility alterations and additions in accordance with standard operating procedures and applicable standards.
* Fulfill facilities design requests by coordinating with team members, gathering requirements, and translating field information into accurate drawings.
* Measure facilities, rooms, and sites to verify existing conditions and determine as-built conditions.
* Assemble, update, and maintain as-built drawings and record documents for maintenance and design reference.
* Translate field notes, sketches, and measurements into AutoCAD two dimensional drawings with minimal supervision.
* Navigate, read, and interpret construction documents, architectural drawings, and specifications.
* Maintain organized record documents for industrial, warehouse, laboratory, clean-room, and office facilities.
* Plan and organize time, workload, and workspace to meet project timelines and priorities.
* Support facilities documentation accuracy by ensuring drawings reflect current conditions and approved changes.
Success in This Role Looks Like
* Facility drawings and record documents are accurate, complete, and aligned with existing site conditions.
* As-built documentation is consistently updated and accessible for maintenance, compliance, and future design work.
* Design requests are completed on time with minimal rework or clarification needed.
* Collaboration with facilities, engineering, and operations teams is effective and professional.
* AutoCAD drawings follow drafting standards, construction conventions, and internal procedures.
* Field verification activities are performed thoroughly and safely.
Position Requirements
This Position Requires the Following Skills and Attributes
* Associate degree or certificate related to preparing construction documents or demonstrate equivalent relevant work experience.
* Bring two years of architectural drafting or related design experience using AutoCAD.
* Demonstrate competence using AutoCAD for two dimensional drafting.
* Use Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, and Excel effectively.
* Apply strong organizational skills with consistent attention to detail.
* Read and interpret measurements from measuring devices, AutoCAD tools, and printed drawings.
* Understand feet and inches, including fractions.
* Demonstrate basic knowledge of industrial, laboratory, clean-room, warehouse, and office building improvements.
* Apply basic knowledge of building codes and construction standards.
* Walk and stand for extended periods and reach upward and downward during site verification surveys.
Preferred
The Following Skills and Attributes Are Preferred
* Demonstrate experience preparing architectural and engineering submittal packages for city or municipal approval.
* Apply working knowledge of Construction Specification Institute format.
* Create three dimensional renderings for design presentations.
* Support facilities design drafting, architectural documentation, and construction coordination activities.
