The Linux Engineer, Server Platform Engineering designs, implements, and maintains Linux-based infrastructure that supports mission‑critical enterprise applications at Applied Medical. This role ensures the reliability, scalability, and security of server platforms that enable business operations, research, and medical device innovation. The Linux Engineer, Server Platform Engineering supports enterprise systems across physical, virtual, and containerized environments while collaborating with infrastructure, security, and application teams to optimize performance and maintain compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and maintain Linux servers across Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and other Linux distributions in physical, virtual, and Kubernetes environments.
- Perform operating system upgrades, patching, configuration management, and system hardening to meet enterprise security and compliance requirements.
- Architect and optimize scalable, highly available Linux infrastructure for enterprise applications and business‑critical workloads.
- Implement automation for provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring using tools such as Ansible, shell scripting, Python, and Power Shell.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure optimal uptime and proactively resolve infrastructure issues.
- Apply security best practices including vulnerability management, access control, and system auditing in collaboration with information security teams.
- Provide Tier three support for Linux‑related incidents and escalations to maintain operational continuity.
- Collaborate with application, database, network, and cloud engineering teams to support enterprise systems and platform reliability.
- Lead research initiatives, recommend system improvements, and develop new processes to enhance performance and scalability.
- Coordinate project activities by maintaining documentation, tracking progress, and supporting cross‑functional technical initiatives.

- Maintain high availability, stability, and performance across enterprise Linux infrastructure and server platforms.
- Implement automation and configuration management that improves operational efficiency and reduces manual intervention.
- Strengthen security posture through proactive patching, system hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
- Resolve complex infrastructure issues efficiently while supporting business‑critical systems and applications.
- Drive platform improvements that enhance scalability, reliability, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Foster strong collaboration across infrastructure, security, and application teams to support enterprise technology initiatives.
- Obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrate a minimum of seven years of experience in Linux system administration or Linux engineering within enterprise environments.
- Demonstrate advanced expertise administering Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and other enterprise Linux distributions.
- Apply strong scripting skills using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages to automate system tasks and workflows.
- Demonstrate experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Kube Virt and containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Demonstrate proficiency with automation and infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Git Hub for configuration and deployment management.
