UNIT SUMMARY

The Emergency Department at Northwest Hospital currently sees over 60,000 patients per year and has 49 beds. The Emergency Department treats major and minor illnesses, typically related to cardiac, stroke and behavioral health. Additionally, staff may provide care for orthopedic injuries or minor trauma. Our rapid care area is designated for minor illnesses. Staff members are outgoing and positive and must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status and be able to effectively implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the RN provides safe, age-appropriate patient care. The members of Patient Care Services commit themselves to sustaining a culture where students care bravely as they focus on achieving optimal patient outcomes. Each student employee is obligated to deliver highly reliable care while adhering to all National Patient Safety Goals and job description. This occurs within a learning environment that is supportive and just, where each employee is valued for their contribution to the collective safety of patients, families, staff and visitors.

Of equal importance is each student’s commitment to the value of teamwork in order to promote a unified and spirited workplace.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate s degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field
  • Formal working knowledge equivalent to student nurse with 1-year (full time) nursing school
  • Actively enrolled full-time in an accredited nursing program and have completed nursing fundamentals; entry level knowledge; basic employment skills
