Fire Chief

The Town of Randolph Fire Department seeks a candidate for the position of Fire Chief. This full‑time position reports to the Town Manager and requires scheduling work hours as necessary to accomplish departmental responsibilities.

Duties

The Fire Chief serves as the top‑level supervisor for the delivery of fire and rescue services, providing a strong working knowledge of advanced‑level ambulance services. The Chief is responsible for the direction and supervision of all Department activities, including budgeting, fire and emergency medical response, planning, personnel matters, fire prevention and investigation, public safety education, training, communications systems, and technology.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Science/Administration, Public Administration, Business Management, or closely related field, or equivalent experience. Graduation from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit Firefighter Training Program (or equivalent) preferred.
  • At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible fire service experience, with a minimum of five (5) years as a firefighter, five (5) years as a shift officer, and three (3) years as a deputy fire chief or administrative equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum certifications:
    Massachusetts Fire Training Council Fire Instructor I;
    Fire Officer I;
    Fire Officer II; NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 300, 400;
    Massachusetts EMT‑Basic;
    Valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license.
  • Preferred certifications:
    Massachusetts Fire Chief Credential;
    Massachusetts Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency with computers and technology.
  • Knowledge of MGL c. 148, c. 48, and 527 CMR.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement programs to improve community safety and department efficiency.
  • Must reside within 15 miles of the Town of Randolph within six months of employment.

Applicants must successfully pass a fitness‑for‑duty examination, including a medical examination, stress test, psychological assessment, and comprehensive background investigation.
