Chief of Operations – Town of Randolph Fire Department

Full‑time appointed position, 40 hours per week, salary $155,000–$175,000 per year, subject to negotiation. Eligible for municipal benefits package.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as top‑level supervisor for fire, rescue and emergency medical services.
  • Direct and supervise the department’s training program.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the department.
  • Act as second in charge and represent the Fire Chief in his absence.
  • Supervise daily activities of the department.
  • Plan, organize and implement programs to improve community services and increase Fire Department efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science/Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of coursework and certifications equaling 120 hours of advanced studies (preferred).
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Firefighter/EMT.
  • Minimum eight years of supervisory experience in a fire department and at least ten years total as a firefighter.
  • Excellent oral, computer, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of MGL c.148, MGL c.48, and 527 CMR.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement community programs and improve department efficiency.
  • Must reside within 15 miles of the Town of Randolph within six months of employment.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License
  • Massachusetts EMT/Basic
  • NIMS IC 100, 700, 200, 300, and 400
  • Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit Firefighter Training Program or equivalent
  • Massachusetts Fire Training Council Fire Officer 1 certification or Pro Board equivalent
  • Massachusetts Fire Training Council Fire Instructor 1 certification or Pro Board equivalent
Additional Requirements

Must successfully pass a fitness for duty examination in accordance with Commonwealth of MA medical standards, including medical examination, stress test, psychological examination and a comprehensive background investigation (including CORI check).
