Position Summary
The QA/QC Manager leads the Quality function at the Cambridgeport manufacturing plant, with full accountability for product quality across custom HVAC and Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) units. This role oversees quality from incoming materials through Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and post-shipment performance.
Working cross‑functionally with Sales, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Project Management, the QA/QC Manager ensures all products meet stringent mechanical, electrical, and acoustic standards—particularly those required by hyperscale data center customers.
This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring daily presence on the production floor, active participation in root‑cause investigations, ownership of FAT documentation, and continuous improvement of quality systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities Quality Management System & Compliance- Maintain and manage document control, revision control, and record retention for all quality documentation.
- Lead semi‑annual Management Reviews and report quality performance to executive leadership.
- Ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory/audit requirements.
- Conduct daily visual inspections of incoming materials, in‑process components, and finished goods.
- Develop and maintain inspection records for nonconforming incoming materials.
- Coordinate and oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and customer witness testing.
- Own and finalize FAT documentation packages.
- Partner with Engineering and Electrical teams to verify proper installation and adherence to specifications.
- Oversee mechanical quality inspections, including welds, sheet metal dimensions, and vibration testing.
- Lead Nonconformance (NCR) and Corrective/Preventive Action (CAPA) processes.
- Conduct root‑cause investigations using methodologies such as 5‑Why and Fishbone (Ishikawa).
- Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with Shop Management to ensure completeness and readiness of units prior to shipment.
- Track and reduce rework and cost of poor quality (COPQ).
- Partner with Engineering on documentation review prior to production release.
- Develop skills matrices, training programs, and cross‑functional training plans.
- Set performance expectations and conduct regular feedback sessions and performance reviews.
- Train production staff on quality standards and safety compliance.
- Oversee execution of quality inspections and testing processes.
- Serve as the primary quality contact for customers and third‑party inspectors.
- Partner with Engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Collaborate with Operations on production holds, releases, and rework decisions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3 years in a quality leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience working in regulated or audited environments.
- Experience supporting customer‑witnessed Factory Acceptance Testing.
- Proficiency with ERP/MES systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience in HVAC manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication.
- Strong knowledge of root‑cause analysis methodologies (5‑Why, Fishbone).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, temperature changes, and industrial materials.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and access elevated areas for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs; team lifting required for heavier items.
