Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $18.57 – $31.06 per hour (maximum $31.06 per hour for 30 years experience)

To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students, small groups, or whole classrooms, helping students reach the skill levels of the class as a whole. To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment that enables students to fully benefit from the instructional program and available resources.

• Paraprofessional certification.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests recommended by the teacher.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in devising special strategies based on understanding of individual students’ needs, interests and abilities.
• Help students master instructional equipment or materials assigned by the teacher.
• Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
• Assist with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling.
• Read to students, listen to students read and participate in oral communication with students.
• Assist students in the library or media center.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise testing and make‑up work as assigned by the teacher.
• Help students with clothing.
• Assist with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
• Assist with wash‑up and toilet routines.
• Alert the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
• Serve as the chief source of information for any substitute teacher in the regular teacher’s absence.
• Maintain high ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information as expected of fully licensed teachers.
• Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

• Communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers, administration and community members.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Use e‑mail and office equipment effectively.
• Work with students individually or in group settings.

• Indoor classrooms: student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass and possible communicable diseases.
• Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips: exposure to varying temperatures and mowed grass.
• Regular work attendance required.
