Long-Term Substitute Teacher – 5th Grade Bilingual Teacher – Eastlawn Elementary
Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long-Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes. The position is full‑time for the defined dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits for that time period.
General Qualifications- Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.
- Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs which includes lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing progress of student work (grades).
- Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
- Communicate with parents, as needed, after consulting with administration to provide information on academic or behavior matters.
- Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
- Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by teachers to provide instruction to assigned students; if plans are not available, use appropriate resources to create plans.
- Establish positive learning expectations for all students.
- Maintain accurate attendance records.
- Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and respect for students.
- Manage classroom organization.
- Clean and organize the rooms at the end of the day.
- Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day, including a rating of the lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher.
- Modify instruction to meet student needs and work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff members, and community representatives to provide an appropriate educational program.
- Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching, with good oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and professional judgment.
- Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents, colleagues, and the educational community.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) effectively.
- Work in indoor classrooms exposed to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, and possible communicable diseases.
- Work outdoors on schoolyard and grounds, including field trips and exposure to varying temperatures and mowed grass.
- Maintain regular work attendance.
$243.36 per day for the length of assignment. Sick leave accumulates at a rate of 1 sick day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked and 0.25 personal day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked.
Dates of PositionThe position may vary in duration depending on the District’s ability to fill the vacancy with a qualified teacher; in some cases the duration will be defined. The position will begin on August 12, 2026.
