Position: Long-Term Substitute Teacher – 5th Grade Bilingual (Spanish & English)
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Building Administrator, a full‑time Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will instruct, assess progress, and maintain discipline for all students in assigned 5th grade classes. The role includes maintaining student attendance records, managing classroom organization, and communicating with parents, teachers, and administrators as required.
Responsibilities- Plan lessons and assess student work, using available resources and collaborating with teachers when lesson plans are not provided.
- Attend parent‑teacher conferences, training sessions, and meetings as needed.
- Communicate with parents regarding educational progress and behavioral concerns, in coordination with administration.
- Supervise students in various school settings, ensuring safety and positive behavior.
- Establish and enforce learning expectations and classroom management strategies.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and clean classroom facilities at the end of each school day.
- Provide end‑of‑day communication to the classroom teacher, including ratings of lesson plans left by the teacher.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs and collaborate with colleagues and community resources.
- Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching, demonstrating sound professional judgment and strong communication skills.
- Professional Educator or Substitute Teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Fluent in Spanish and English; able to provide full‑day instruction in Spanish.
- Preferred:
Prior substitute experience within Rantoul City Schools. - Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and support a positive learning environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Use hands and arms dexterously; lift and carry items up to 75 pounds.
- Maintain composure under stress and manage emotional control.
- Proficient with web‑based programs, e‑mail, and educational technology such as Smartboards.
- Work in indoor classroom environments with exposure to typical classroom conditions.
- Compensation: $243.36 per day for the length of assignment.
- Sick leave accrual: 1 sick day per continuous month worked; 0.25 personal day per continuous month worked.
The position begins on August 12, 2026. The duration may vary depending on district needs and the availability of fully‑certified teachers. When a certified teacher is hired, the substitute assignment will terminate, with prior notice issued where possible.
