Long-Term Substitute Teacher - 1st grade bilingual teacher - Pleasant Acres Elementary

Position: Long-Term Substitute Teacher - 1st grade bilingual teacher

Area: Instructional

Reports to: Building Administrator

Building: Pleasant Acres Elementary

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long-Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes and perform related duties as required. This is a full-time position for the defined dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits for that time period.

General Qualifications
  • Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.
Responsibilities
  • Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing progress of student work (grades).
  • Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
  • Communicate with parents after consulting with administration, including good news and/or information on academic or behavioral matters.
  • Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
  • When available, follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the teacher; if plans are not available, use appropriate resources in the classroom and nearby teachers to create plans.
  • Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records.
  • Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and exhibit an understanding and respect for students.
  • Manage classroom organization.
  • Clean and reorganize rooms at the end of the day.
  • Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day, including a rating of the lesson plans and instructions that were left.
  • Modify instruction to meet student needs and work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives.
  • Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching, maintain good oral and written communication skills, and exercise sound professional judgment.
Other Duties
  • Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands
  • Effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents, colleagues, administration, and members of the educational community.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) effectively.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor classrooms/school; exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases.
  • Outdoor schoolyard and grounds; exposure to temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold) and mowed grass.
  • Regular work attendance.
Salary and Benefits
  • $243.26 per day.
  • Sick/personal leave: accumulate 1 sick day and 0.25 personal day at conclusion of each continuous month worked.
Dates of Position

The duration of the position may vary depending on the ability of the District to fill the position with a qualified teacher. In some cases, the duration will be defined. The position will begin on August 12, 2026. The District is required to hire a fully‑certified teacher for the vacancy when possible; for unfilled vacancies the District will leave the position posted until a fully‑certified teacher is hired, at which time the long‑term substitute position will terminate.

The District will provide advanced notice to the substitute teacher when possible.
