Beginning August 12, 2026 (duration may vary; defined in details below). Full‑time for the defined dates; qualifies for benefits during that period.

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will handle instruction, progress monitoring, and discipline for all pupils in assigned classes, performing related duties as required.

• Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Strong communication skills (written and oral).
• Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.

• Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning with assistance from administration and teachers, and assessing progress of student work (grades).
• Attend parent–teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed for the position.
• Communicate with parents as needed after consulting with administration regarding student progress or behavior.
• Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
• When available, follow lesson plans and instructions provided by teachers; if plans are not available, create plans using available resources.
• Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students.
• Maintain accurate student attendance records.
• Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and exhibit understanding and respect for students.
• Manage classroom organization.
• Clean and organize classroom rooms at the end of the day.
• Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day, including ratings for lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher.
• Modify instruction to meet student needs; work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives to provide an appropriate educational program; understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
• Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching; maintain good oral and written communication skills; exhibit good interpersonal skills and sound professional judgment.

• Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with parents (consultation with administration first), colleagues, administration, and all other members of the educational community.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) effectively.

• Indoor classrooms: exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases.
• Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips: exposure to temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold); exposure to mowed grass.
• Regular work attendance.

• $243.36 per day for length of assignment.
• Sick/personal leave: accumulate at a rate of 1 sick day per continuous month worked and .25 personal day per continuous month worked.

This position may have a varying duration. It will begin on August 12, 2026. The District is required to hire a fully‑certified teacher for the vacancy when possible; if the vacancy remains unfilled, the District will keep the position posted until a suitable teacher is hired. The long‑term substitute role will terminate at that time. The District will provide advanced notice to the substitute teacher whenever possible.

Employee is required to stand, walk, and sit frequently in the classroom. The job includes using hands dexterously to handle and feel materials, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, talking or hearing, and smelling. Physical lifting and carrying is expected: up to 10 pounds, up to 25 pounds, up to 50 pounds, and up to 75 pounds, depending on the task.

Activities are performed at various frequencies: never (1–33% of the time), occasionally (34–66%), frequently (67–100%), and continuously. The role also involves operating technology such as laptops and Smartboards.
