Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this long‑term substitute teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes and perform related duties as required. This full‑time position covers the dates listed below and qualifies for benefits during that period.

• Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Strong communication skills (written and oral).
• Preferred previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
• Fluent in Spanish and English.
• Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.

• Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing student progress.
• Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
• Communicate with parents after consulting administration, providing updates on academic or behavior information.
• Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
• Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the teacher; if plans are unavailable, create suitable plans using classroom resources.
• Establish positive learning expectations for all students.
• Maintain accurate student attendance records.
• Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and respect for students.
• Manage classroom organization.
• Clean and organize the rooms at the end of the day.
• Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day, including a rating of the lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher.
• Modify instruction to meet student needs and work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff, and community representatives.
• Apply contemporary teaching principles and maintain good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, exercising sound professional judgment.

• Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Effectively communicate with parents, colleagues, and administration.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) effectively.

• Indoor classrooms; exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, food odors, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases.
• Outdoor schoolyard and grounds; exposure to varying temperatures and mowed grass.
• Regular work attendance required.

• $243.36 per day for the length of assignment.
• Sick/personal leave: accrues 1 sick day per continuous month worked and 0.25 personal day per continuous month worked.

The duration of the position may vary based on the district’s ability to fill the role with a qualified teacher. The position will begin on August 12, 2026. The district is required to hire a fully certified teacher for the vacancy when possible; for unfilled vacancies the position remains posted until a certified teacher is hired, at which time the long‑term substitute position terminates.

The district will provide advanced notice whenever possible.

Employee must stand, walk, sit, use hands dexterously, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, smell, lift and carry up to 10 pounds; up to 25 pounds; up to 50 pounds.
