Rantoul City Schools District 137 – JW Eater Junior High, Rantoul, Illinois

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for instruction, progress monitoring, and discipline of all pupils in assigned Art classes. The position is full‑time for the defined dates listed below and qualifies the teacher for benefits during that period.

• Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning with assistance from administration and teachers, and assessing student progress.
• Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
• Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student academic and behavior matters.
• Supervise students in various school‑related settings.
• Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by teachers; if plans are not available, use appropriate resources to create them.
• Establish positive learning expectations and maintain a positive classroom environment.
• Maintain accurate student attendance records.
• Manage classroom organization and clean up at the end of the day.
• Provide end‑of‑day communication to the teacher and administration.
• Modify instruction to meet individual student needs and work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.

• Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Preferred: previous substitute experience in Rantoul City Schools.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

• Ability to effectively communicate with parents, colleagues, and administrators.
• Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
• Proficiency with web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.).

• Indoor classrooms with exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, food odors, and possible communicable diseases.
• Outdoor schoolyard and grounds; exposure to varying temperatures.
• Regular work attendance required.

• $243.26 per day

• Duration of the position may vary; the position will begin on August 12, 2026.
• The position will terminate when a fully certified teacher is hired.
