Long Term Substitute - 2nd Grade Bilingual Teacher
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes and perform related duties as required. This is a full‑time position for the defined dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits for that time period.
General Qualifications- Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.
- Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs including lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessment of student progress.
- Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
- Communicate with parents as needed after consulting with administration, providing updates on academic or behavioral matters.
- Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings.
- When available, follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the teacher; if plans are unavailable, use appropriate resources to create plans.
- Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records.
- Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and respect for students.
- Manage classroom organization.
- Clean and organize the rooms at the end of the day.
- Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day; can provide a rating to administration of lesson plans left by the teacher.
- Modify instruction to meet student needs; work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff, and community representatives.
- Apply contemporary teaching principles and practices; demonstrate good oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and sound professional judgment.
- Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Effective verbal and written communication with parents, colleagues, and administration.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) efficiently.
- Indoor classrooms – exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases.
- Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips – exposure to temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold) and mowed grass.
- Regular work attendance.
- $243.36 per day for length of assignment.
- Sick/personal leave: 1 sick day and .25 personal day accrued each continuous month worked.
The duration of the position may vary depending on the District’s ability to fill the vacancy with a fully‑certified teacher. The position will begin on August 12, 2026, and will continue until the District hires a fully‑certified teacher; advanced notice will be provided when possible.
