Position Overview

An exhibit design and fabrication company is hiring an experienced Metal Fabricator and Welder to build custom structures, frames, mounts, supports, and scenic metal components. This is not repetitive production welding. Each project is different and requires strong MIG and TIG welding skills, precision metalworking, blueprint reading, and creative problem-solving. Occasional travel may be required for installations throughout the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate custom metal components from blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Lay out, fit, tack, weld, and finish detailed assemblies
  • Cut, drill, grind, polish, bend, and shape metal
  • Inspect completed welds for fit, alignment, strength, accuracy, and finish
  • Operate saws, press brakes, drill presses, grinders, shears, and CNC plasma equipment
  • Prepare metalwork for painting, patina, or powder coating
  • Assist with packing, loading, installation, and occasional project travel
Qualifications
  • Professional custom fabrication or welding experience
  • Formal MIG and TIG welding training or welding certification
  • Strong blueprint, measurement, layout, and weld-symbol reading skills
  • Experience with carbon steel; stainless steel and aluminum experience preferred
  • Ability to identify and correct welding or fabrication defects
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling changing custom projects
  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds and regularly stand, kneel, crouch, reach, and use fabrication tools
  • Available for occasional overtime, nights, weekends, and travel of up to two weeks

AWS certification, CNC plasma experience, forklift certification, and experience with architectural, scenic, theatrical, museum, prototype, or other one-off fabrication are especially valuable.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Weekly pay
  • Referral bonus
  • Opportunity to create unique, nationally installed projects
  • Long-term career opportunity in custom fabrication
