Lead Locate TechnicianJob Description
The Lead Technician is responsible for leading a group of assigned employees within their team, while maintaining and protecting their area of coverage and following company policies and safety regulations. The Lead Locate Technician is responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines, and assisting with leading the team to accomplish the same goal.
This position ensures compliance with client and state requirements. Duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations. Knowledge of multiple locating methods is required. Technicians will be dispatched to locate and verify for utility customers.

- Company vehicle, laptop, and smartphone

- Oversee daily scheduling of contractors and sub-contractors
- Route tickets to optimize efficiency
- Develop a daily production plan and provide help as needed
- Review prior days documents and reports
- Review daily expectations and safety messages and adjust as needed
- Audit documents to ensure client compliance
- Establish client quality assurance and resolve any problems
- Ensure timesheets are correct and team members are accounted for
- Locate underground facilities by using transmitters and connecting to buried facilities or pedestals
- Work across various terrains and weather conditions in construction zones
- Interpret job orders, blueprints, and maps to route and perform duties efficiently
- Perform locates and emergency/on-call locates as needed to meet customer needs
- Communicate professionally with customers, co-employees, and third parties
- Coordinate with management, contractors, and utility customers to maintain a damage-free environment
- Utilize relevant technology and tools effectively
- Collaborate within a supervised team environment
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Multiple years of utility locating experience
- Proven quality in locating work and documentation
- Experience using multiple types of utility locating equipment
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher prints
- Vacuum truck experience desirable
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level
- Background screening passed (no violations within the last 3 years)
