The School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development seeks a full time, benefit‑eligible, nine‑month Lecturer in Counseling and Human Resource Development at our branch campus in Rapid City, South Dakota. This position is 100% instructional and administrative, non‑tenure track, with potential for summer teaching. Primary responsibilities include teaching, advising/mentorship of graduate students, and service. The position requires in‑person teaching in Rapid City.

The Counseling and Human Resource Development (CHRD) program serves over 130 students each year and offers six specializations, including clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, college counseling, administration of student affairs, marriage and family counseling, and rehabilitation counseling.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching responsibility is typically 12 credits per semester of graduate courses in a CACREP‑approved master’s level program.
  • Serve as the main contact for students of the CHRD Program in Rapid City, SD.
  • Advise students enrolled at the Rapid City site of the CHRD program.
  • Supervise and help to recruit adjunct faculty at the Rapid City location.
  • Collaborate with Rapid City support staff and CHRD Program Coordinator at main campus (Brookings, SD) to make programmatic decisions.
  • Provide service on college and school committees and to the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate from a CACREP‑accredited Counselor Education program by start date, or an equivalent doctorate plus one year full‑time in a CACREP‑accredited counseling program prior to the 2012‑2013 school year.
  • Eligibility for licensure and/or certification in the state of South Dakota.
  • Knowledge of CACREP standards.
  • Ability to teach in university settings (on‑campus, hybrid, and online).
  • Clinical supervision skills at the graduate level.
  • Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations.
  • Maintain certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s).
  • Evidence of sustained professional engagement through at least two of the following: (i) sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling; (ii) professional service and advocacy in counseling; (iii) ongoing counseling practice; or (iv) research and scholarly activity in counseling.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Experience with online course development and integration of innovative technology to enhance curriculum.
  • Experience working within rural and frontier communities.
