Supervises: Adjuncts as needed.
Purpose:
Corporate Education instructors at Western Dakota Tech are educators whose instructional efforts are expected to reflect the mission, vision, and goals of the institution. Trainers teach courses in their respective fields to include planning, preparation, and delivery of lecture/lab instruction materials at all levels of training. This position is based on a 175-day work schedule per contract year.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time position and the work to be performed will be done in a classroom lecture setting and in simulation in an actual semi-truck/trailer on city roads and yard backing exercises. Days of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work may include evenings/weekends for planned school events. There may be times when travel is required for meetings/training.
Physical Demands:
The duties of this position are moderately active in nature with lectures in a classroom setting and driving on city roads assessing students as they drive; some standing, bending, twisting, climbing and lifting/moving objects up to 50lbs. occasionally will be required. The Truck Driving instructor will assist with minor routine maintenance to the trucks (such as changing light bulbs) and is responsible for keeping the trucks and trailers clean and well maintained.
Driving, fine finger manipulation (keyboarding, pipe fitting, bench work, etc), reaching, repetitive motion, sitting for sustained periods of time, standing for sustained periods of time, use of both hands, use of either hand independently, walking.
1. Mastery of Subject Matter
* Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
* Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
2. Teaching Performance
* Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
* Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students, i.e. prepare lectures, lessons, presentations, lab activities, and tests
* Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
* Employ available instructional technology, i.e. internet, interactive technology, and simulation when appropriate.
3. Evaluation of Student Learning
* Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit completion paperwork as required.
* Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
4. Support of School's Policies and Procedures
* Teach classes as assigned and in accordance with the course description.
* Meet with each class as scheduled and hold classes for the time frame as designated in the class schedule.
* Record and provide attendance data
* Adhere to FERPA regulations.
* Exercise stewardship of school's facilities and materials.
* Follow WDT policies and procedures.
5. Participation in Western Dakota Tech Program Activities
* Act in a professional manner as delineated in the South Dakota Code of Professional Ethics for Teachers (Appendix
B).
* Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from students, colleagues, staff and administrators.
* Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team.
Must have the minimum education in the appropriate field or discipline area and directly related experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the work and discipline area. Completion of training provided by WDTC as needed. Current Class A CDL required. A Passenger & School Bus endorsement is preferred.
* Demonstrated proficiency in operational skills related to the program, including the safe and effective shifting and backing of a trailer.
* Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude, including the ability to identify and address minor maintenance issues on program vehicles and equipment.

* Demonstrated ability in oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated expertise in project management and problem solving.
* Demonstrated ability to use current software applications applicable to the position including but not limited to Word, MS Teams, and Outlook.
* Ability to organize, manage and complete timeline projects over multiple-year periods.
