SUMMARY:Provides students with intervention opportunities in reading, math, and writing; works with students to provide assistance and support; monitors student progress.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThis class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
- Works with students individually or in small groups in and out of regular classrooms under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Reinforces the instructional plan laid out by the classroom teacher.
- Provides instructional assistance and motivate students in the areas of math, reading, and language.
- Plans and prepares study aids such as flash cards and worksheets.
- Assists teacher with classroom activities; leads breakout sessions.
- Manages student behavior in small groups in order to create a safe, positive learning environment.
- Monitors and reports progress of individual students to teachers.
- Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
- Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Education and Experience:- Two (2) years post-secondary education OR a passing Para Pro Score.
- One (1) year of curriculum support experience.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

- Classroom policies, procedures and processes.
- Methods and techniques to assist students in reading, writing and mathematics.
- Methods and techniques for working with students with disabilities and special needs.

- Computer applications related to the work.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Monitoring and improving student behavior and learning skills.
- Assisting children and special needs students and assessing educational needs.
- Maintaining composure and working effectively under classroom conditions.
- Administering educational and school support programs.
- Reacting quickly to situations that could create personal stress and safety problems.
- Communicating effectively with children.
- Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
