Position Overview:

The Owen School at Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking multiple Teacher Assistants to reinforce learning in accordance with the organization’s Mission Statement and Core Values and support of children in the Rapid City Area Schools. What You Will Do:

  • Treatment Planning
    :
    Assist in performing treatment plan and individual education plan methods specific to each child.
  • Teaching
    :
    Assist in conducting classroom activities and lesson planning, providing instruction, review, and practice of skills taught by the Classroom Teacher with individual and small groups of students. Prepare instructional materials as directed by the Classroom Teacher. Maintain classroom and/or student records and documentation and contributes data for progress notes and individual treatment plans. Assume Classroom Teacher’s duties in his/her absence
  • Child Supervision
    :
    Nurture children through one-on-one communication and care and maintain vigilant supervision. Reinforce instructional/behavioral objectives as needed in order to maintain an effective classroom learning environment.
  • Safety: Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families. Follow Agency and School Policies and Procedures.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Experience working in an education setting or childcare setting preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software utilized by office.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to adapt to a child's behavior physically and verbally in ways taught by the Agency.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
