The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, benefited, tenure-track position in Computer Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 2026. An earned doctorate in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is required before the start date.
Candidates with experience related to IOT, Edge AI, real time and embedded systems, Computer Architecture, HDLs, FPGAs, industry-academic collaborations, or innovation-based learning are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to secure and lead externally funded research and perform scholarly activities, teach state-of-the-art undergraduate and graduate courses in computer engineering, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in service activities as assigned.
The EECS faculty at South Dakota Mines have expertise in applied electromagnetics, antennas & communications, cyber-physical systems and security, data science and engineering, high performance computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, robotics & autonomous systems, automatic control, power & energy systems, and virtual reality. Faculty members are also actively involved in a variety of interdisciplinary research projects across the campus.
Our degree programs are ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science (with specialization options), Data Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering, Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering as well as Computer Science and Engineering, and Doctors of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering as well as Data Science and Engineering. In 2021, ranked South Dakota Mines' electrical engineering program among the top 10 in the nation.
