Engineering Technician City of Huron (South Dakota)
Salary: $28.51 per hour
Under general supervision, technical engineering support work includes designing and drafting detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related maps and specifications for City projects. Work varies, requiring individual judgment within professional guidelines and standards.
Job DutiesReviews engineering data, sketches, specifications, and regulatory requirements; researches utilities, zoning, City policies, and related information to support project planning and implementation.
Designs and drafts plans for public infrastructure projects (streets, utilities, sidewalks, and related systems) using AutoCAD and other computer-assisted design tools.
Prepares engineering documents, maps, profiles, and cost estimates; utilizes software such as AutoCAD, Excel, ArcGIS, and Bluebeam, along with survey and GPS equipment.
Conducts fieldwork including construction surveying and inspection to ensure proper grading, materials, workmanship, and compliance with project specifications.
Maintains records and reports; collaborates with contractors, staff, and agencies while attending meetings and trainings, and performs additional duties as assigned.
Work is performed in both office and outdoor field environments.
Requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and move throughout construction and field sites.
Involves positioning the body to access work areas, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to perform inspections and survey work.
Frequent use of computers, standard office equipment, and survey/field instruments.
Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 50 pounds; heavier items are handled with assistance or mechanical aids, consistent with reasonable accommodations.
Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, moisture, dust, and moderate noise; adherence to safety procedures and use of protective equipment is required.
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a related field preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in surveying, drafting, permit preparation, construction inspection, or related areas preferred.
Proficiency with engineering software, including AutoCAD, is required.
Must possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
