Position:
Full‑time Transportation Utilities Coordinator
This position is responsible for working with utility companies and other Department of Transportation staff to identify potential impacts to existing utilities and determine alternatives to avoid or minimize those impacts during highway construction projects. Duties include notifying utility companies of planned construction projects, conducting meetings to inform them of proposed highway design, preparing agreements to ensure appropriate reimbursement of utility relocation/adjustment costs, and issuing certification per state and federal regulations.

- Collaborate with DOT staff to minimize impacts to utilities during highway construction.

- 2‑year technical degree in civil engineering technology, engineering/architectural drafting, or a vocational technical degree in a related field; a 4‑year construction management degree; and/or related experience in highway and/or utility construction is preferred.
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies regarding the location and relocation of utilities (preferred but not required).
- Utilities operations and standards (preferred but not required).
- Legal land descriptions (preferred but not required).
- Principles related to design and construction of projects.
- Use Micro Station/Inroads or similar CAD software (preferred but not required).
- Read and interpret utility plans and maps (preferred but not required).
- Read and interpret highway construction plans or related construction plans.
- Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Display high standards of ethical conduct.
- Demonstrate self‑confidence and take action when needed.
- Attend to all details of assignments and complete work properly, accurately, and thoroughly.
- Treat customers courteously and be responsive to their needs.
- Work cooperatively with others and promote a friendly work climate to achieve shared goals.
