Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification, with a 48-hour/week schedule on night shifts.
Responsibilities- Mixed ICU setting divided into pods, including MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU (39 beds total)
- Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers
- Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely based on acuity
- Uses Epic for charting (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation targets every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus a night APP)
- Travelers may occasionally be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking is available on-site
- No RTO is permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but the assignment must be extended to complete the full 13-week contract
- Active RN license in South Dakota or a compact state license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience) strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience in other settings may be considered
- At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
