- Monday-Friday schedule with light call
- 50% clinic/50% OR and rounding in hospital
- 25-30 patients per day in clinic
- Group include 3 Ortho Spine Surgeons, 1 Neurosurgeon, 2 Pain Physicians, 4 Full time APPs (1 NP, 1 PA) and part-time APP staff
- Call is primary (MD also on call), covers spine and general ortho
- Mostly call from home, rarely need to come into hospital, 45 minute response time
- Hospital responsibilities of first assisting in surgery, post‑op /inpatient rounds, emergency room patient evaluations and treatment
- New grads are encouraged to apply, those with surgical experience is preferred
- Must be eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of South Dakota and possess NCCPA or ANCC certification
The Orthopedic Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions requiring surgical intervention. The NP works collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate, treat, and manage patients pre‑and post‑operatively, ensuring optimal functional recovery. Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from HIPAA.
Responsibilities- Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
- Build a rapport with patients and explain condition and course of action effectively.
- Coordinate and manage care for patients, including those with complex needs.
- Deliver written and oral communication, respond to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact.
- Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
- Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area.
- Help promote collaboration across generations, functions, regions, and levels.
- Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses.
- Maintain departmental policies and procedures in areas such as safety and infection control.
- Perform quality control and maintain a high standard in relation to infection control mechanisms for patient safety.
- Recommend diagnostic or therapeutic interventions with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, simplicity, acceptability, adherence, and efficacy.
- Promote a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health care team.
- Provide on‑call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
- Completion of a master’s, post‑master’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
- Preferred:
Master’s degree in nursing if licensed prior to August 1, 1995. - Experience in Orthopedic Surgery, Trauma, or Musculoskeletal Care (preferred).
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
- State Controlled Substance License if required by State.
- National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP‑BC) or (ACNPC‑AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP‑BC). Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader:
Family (FNP‑BC) or (FNP‑C), Adult‑Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP‑BC) or (A‑GNP), Adult (ANP‑C). - Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
