Part-time Medication Technician

Essential Functions
  • Administer prescribed treatment and medication to inmate/client at any Sheriff's Office facility as needed and medically required within licensing authorization.
  • Ensure medications are properly stored, ordered, and available for nursing staff.
  • Push a medication cart between locations within the Jail.
  • Recognize and report signs and symptoms of a potentially urgent situation.
  • Maintain accountability and properly document all medication administered to facility specifications.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of medical records.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
  • Preference will be given to those with healthcare experience.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standard, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, including over the telephone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to push/pull a medication cart for up to four hours per shift. When fully loaded, the medication cart weights approximately 200 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, crouch and lift light objects.
  • Must be able to enter data and operate phone.
  • Ability to respond to emergent situations, including the ability to run, restrain aggressive or suicidal individuals and manipulate restraint tools.
Work Environment
  • Work is typically performed indoors in a correctional facility. This is a potentially volatile environment with high accountability.
  • This position may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals.
  • Work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
  • This position will include close interaction with inmates.
