American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position at a Level 2 trauma center requiring 2 years of ED experience and SD or compact RN licensure.
Details- Work in a 33-bed Main ED, including 8 trauma/resuscitation beds and a behavioral health pod, plus additional vertical care space
- See 150-180 patients daily across the neonate to geriatric population
- Level 2 trauma center with a heavy trauma population, including stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls
- Complete Stroke Center caring for patients presenting with stroke symptoms up to 24 hours
- Care for critically ill pediatric patients and cardiac patients, including access to a cardiac catheter lab
- Travelers participate in the Sexual Assault patient rotation, performing evidence collection (buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and victim interviews) with support from a 24/7 SA Quality Coordinator
- RN patient ratio of 1:4-5
- 12-hour variable shifts with shift start times of 0630, 1000, 1200, 1400, and 1830
- 36 hours per week with potential for every weekend depending on staffing needs
- Variable shift schedule will not include both day and night shifts in the same week
- Floating required to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse only, within scope of practice
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
- 24/7 support available including charge nurses, ED techs, phlebotomy, RT, physicians, NPs, radiology/CAT scan, pharm tech, and security
- Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS
- CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, excluding travel experience
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Experience with ESI assessments during triage
- Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills required to care for all patient acuity levels
- Prior experience with the described patient population strongly preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Comfort with participating in Sexual Assault evidence collection required
- Provide emergency care across the full patient acuity spectrum, from minor complaints to critical trauma, stroke, cardiac, and pediatric ICU-level patients
- May be asked to precept nursing students
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- 8 hours of facility orientation plus 4 hours of ED-specific education and a minimum of 2-3 preceptored 12-hour shifts depending on contracted hours
- Holiday coverage only required if needed
- Time off requests require manager approval, and no time off requests are considered during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument facility
- Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
- Facility is known for being very traveler-friendly and frequently renews traveler contracts
